The biomedical sciences sector has been identified as a key pillar of growth. Not surprisingly, Singapore is one of the key strategic manufacturing sites of the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) industry. Singapore currently hosts major R&D industry players and a growing base of medical technology companies within the Tuas Biomedical Park, a 183-hectare BMS-dedicated site slated for expansion to double its current capacity due to increasing industry demand. Singapore also features two dedicated R&D complexes, the Biopolis and the Fushionpolis, research institutions of the Agency of Science Technology and Research (A*STAR).
